Conductr, a leader in digital gaming technology, has launched a project to enhance its digital shuffleboard game. The goal was to develop customizable puck tops that not only give end users a personal touch but also make it easier to track the digital aspects of the game. PrintCity is an innovative center for 3D additive manufacturing and digital manufacturing at Manchester Metropolitan University. The facility is home to a diverse team of manufacturing experts, designers and engineers who work with businesses of all sizes to turn ambitious concepts into tangible solutions. Conductr was under time pressure as 80 special puck tops were needed within a few weeks. Traditional manufacturing methods were too time-consuming and risked delaying the delivery date. The company was hesitant to commit to injection molding in light of potential future product enhancements, and although it had 3D printing capabilities in-house, it was proving difficult to achieve the desired high-quality surface finish.
